Doesn't feasibility study mean they might not build it at all? Like if it is deemed not feasible. Jeez, I thought the decision to move was already made and it was a question of where to. The city and the Missouri congressional delegation needs to jump all over the government's big slow-moving butt to get this expedited; that's a long time to have derilict property hanging around and could have a huge negative impact on the developement of East Village.

Face it. This project is way down the list of federal priorities. And given the present and future state of federal finances, and the loss of Bond, the project just might move to the wish list.

The next approaching economic cycle might mean this project will play out better than was feared.

Good news: Swope is talking about 10 story buildings instead of 3-4 storys. This will put the project back to 1200 units. (The residential had been cut in half to make room for the federal building)
Bad news: the federal building won't open until 2018 or so, much later than originally planned and potentially slowing the rest of the project.

But the GSA building has grown to about half the size of the present Bolling.

I'm not so sure that higher rise buildings will be better for this "new" neighborhood than the smaller, previously proposed Quality Hill-style buildings. There is undoubtedly much less street level activity when tenants live in taller buildings. No front porches, less walking around, more likely they'll be parking in a garage and never even touch the street. Bad idea, IMO.

exactly. Not to mention it will take 100 years to fill up all that underused space with highrises (and the parking lots/garages they will bring with them)

Would be nice if they could incorporate 'Vancouver-style' development: 2-3 story townhomes fronting the street surrounding a highrise or office space in the center of the block.

that's news as well. I really hope Swope gets someone who can design worth a shit. The apartment buildings they have previously built look awful.

I'm all for the higher density residential buildings. In earlier posts on this topic, I advocated for taller buildings to help maximize the population inside the Loop.
