SNL has gone downhill ever since Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi left.
I thought Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood came on after they left.  Now that was hysterical.

That makes me very happy, indeed.

i finally tried You Say Tomato today, for lunch.

i give it a huge thumbs up!

the atmosphere is great.  it has the kitschy junk-shop feel of Succotash, but it is more austere.  the Wenick Bros sign is a great touch, as are the tiny old Bitterman's shopping carts (not sure why you need a shopping cart since the "market" is like 30 square feet, but the carts are fierce!)

the food was great too.  i had the veggie quiche (asparagus, leeks, and chevre cheese) and it was the best quiche i've ever had.  the pasta salad was great too, although i personally think the portion was really small (call me a fat american if you wish).  they also serve (and sell in bulk) Parisi coffee, a locally roasted small-batch coffee (according to my lunch companion).

i think it's horseshit that they can't serve wine and beer there due to the proximity of the longfellow school.  arcane liquor laws never cease to amaze me.

the guys who work there were super-nice and eager to please.  i was dismayed that there weren't that many people eating in there, but it kind of picked up when we left.  this place is definitely special and everyone should go there.

The only complaint I have about this place is the stupid oneway streets surrounding it. What the freak good is one way streets doing for this part of town. KC should convert them immediately.

i agree, though it is still really easy to get to...and that's not a complaint with YST, it's a complaint with the streets!!

I was complaining about about a place, meaning an area I was trying to get to. Think like a lawyer, damn it.

It's all semantics.

But the kids might come in and get drunk on wine!!!

Last Friday I heard another glowing review of this place by the Food Critics on Walt Bodine's show. I guess the original line of the song though is "You like tomato", not "You Say Tomato". Got changed over time I guess.

I went there with a friend for an art showing a week ago. It was okay.

It was kind of clicky. Like if you weren't from the nieghborhood, then they weren't interest in you.

interesting...when i went there the proprietors bent over backwards to be friendly and chatty.  it was the most friendly place i've gotten lunch in a long time.

Stopped in for brunch today.  The last time I had been there was about six months ago and I thought it was "pretty good" at the time.  Today it was awesome.  I had 1/2 biscuits and gravy (awesome gravy and the biscuits were tasty) and a ham / egg croissant .

Their establishment seems to have really taken off, a booming success in a matter of months! The setting and food is positively delightful.

Good on you. Great place. The only problem I have is that I forget it is there.

my wife and I eat there once a week.  It is really good food and somehow they got the atmosphere right.  Teocali down the street is good, but lacks the good atmosphere.
