Fancy Car Rentals
Hi everyone. I've been away for a bit, so I am hoping this is the right forum to ask this question. My son is coming home on leave in March after coming off an 8 month Navy deployment. While home, he wants to rent a car, and really isn't interested in driving a Kia Rio for the week :D Does anyone kn...

Re: NHL OR NBA, let the message board decide!!
Toronto wouldn't be on the top of the list. Maybe KC would be. Other than the Leafs throwing a fit about the competition, why wouldn't Toronto be at the top of the list? A hockey-mad city with a metro population of 5.5 million plus the rest of the "Golden Horseshoe" thrown in for good me...

Re: what's on top of municipal?
Maybe I get all turned around once I get inside the complex, but the panels in that picture appear to be on the east side of the auditorium block - on the Wyandotte side of the arena. The stage for the Music Hall is more or less in the middle of the block, right? I know they bumped up the roof to m...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
Plus...I think (at least in the circles I see)...people have more pride in our city than a lot of places. I see more KC hats in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, etc. I think its equally to let people know that they're from KC as well as be Royals Fans. Maybe I'm crazy. I do that all the time when I travel....

Re: Official Wall of Shame of Ugly Houses in KC
Yes, the story I always heard was that they had a child that was dying of leukemia or something, and he/she had always dreamed of a rainbow painted house, so the parents did that as a tribute or something. Not sure the validity, just what I heard. The story I heard was it was once owned by a sidin...

Quick question about these full-service theaters: While watching the movie, do you have to worry about some waiter wandering in between you and the screen bringing the guy next to you his plate of nachos? I haven't been to one yet, but the picture above made me wonder.

Re: NCAA, NIT, CBI, & CIT Tournaments?!?! Am I seeing this right?
This is the same world that has resulted in thirty-someodd college bowl games (at the FBS level). The CBI and CIT are nice chances for some of those kids to keep playing, but no one pretends its a huge honor to be a part of them. Reading the Wichita State boards (they won their opener in the CBI la...

Re: Kansas City telephone exchange names
A bunch of us (who are getting some gray in our beards) got into this discussion a while back. Growing up out in Indy mine was TE3 (Temple 3) and my friends were all CLifton2 or 4 (252, 254) or INdependence 1 (461). My grandparents over by Indian Mound on the NE side were HUmbolt 3 (483). "Wh...

Re: ONGOING: Sprint Center bookings
Yeah. I caught the ad on the radio. Not a big fan of EW&F but what the heck. Chicago should be by themselves. They could play for a solid three hours and I would enjoy every minute of it. Now all I have to do now is make sure there is no conflict. Caught a concert on TV with the two groups ...

WE DON"T NEED THIS. I live just a few blocks from that corner and I completely agree. I cannot possibly imagine any urgent retail need that there isn't already multiples of up on 119th St or over at Blackbob. They came in here a year or so back and graded and put access roads on that site an...

I would go if they are going to do an over the top 80's pyro type show...and if that one armed drummer is still around. Yeah, he's still there. Caught part of one of those CMT Crossroads concerts a while back with Def Leppard and (wait for it) Taylor Swift. It would be hard to say which was more b...

Downtown Dining with Kids
We have our bi-annual dance recital coming up in mid-May at the Musical Hall. Several of the families get a hotel room downtown and just move in on Friday night and stay until Sunday afternoon. Usually, we get a group rate at the Crowne Plaza or the Marriott. What continues to be a problem is tryi...

Re: Smokin Joes to become pub?
What happened to Smokin' Joes? It used to always be packed at lunch. They spent all that money on the upgrade and deck, and then "Poof" it was closed. It wasn't the greatest que in the world, but not bad - lunch special was a good deal and within walking distance. I was surprised to see...

Re: 87th Street SPUI bridge, it's a monster!
Doesn't look like this SPUI wastes any less land than a cloverleaf. I think the SPUI itself takes less space than a cloverleaf, and it does have better flow than a traditional diamond. What makes the 87th street version look so freaking huge is all the frontage roads, US-69 and everything else in ...

Re: Royals Express
I was surprised to read how much ridership had dropped in the last 5 years. I had my Chiefs season tickets up through the '03 season, and the buses were always jam-packed. I liked a) saving money, b) not having to park on the hill on the west edge of the complex and b) not fighting the post-game t...

Re: KC's premier university?
also re: the name change at UMKC - how hard can this be to make happen? It's a tiny superficial step that leaves all of the connections with U of M system in place, but IMO would make an immediate impact on the perception of the school. Look at, say, Truman State for evidence of a successful im...

Perhaps they could just electrify the hell out of the whole thing - is terra cotta a good conductor? Whenever a pigenon gets to close we could get that whole Tesla show the P&L building folks were going for on that proposed office building. Bird-scaled bug zappers! Nothing like the sweet smel...

Re: KC Star: 64130 = "Murder Factory" zip code in KC.
While the "murder factory" angle is sensationalist, I think the guts of the article has some good points. The Monday installment talks about how a number of social issues and policy decisions led to the decline of this area. All the following were noted as contributors to the problem: h...

Re: KC's premier university?
I'm a UMKC alum from back in the 80s. It's a good-sized school, but I didn't feel a lot of the "college experience" They've added a few more dorms, but almost nobody lives on campus. I commuted in from Independence each day, took my classes, and then left. I would say the vast majorit...
