If you would get more in touch with your feminine side, the staff at Coffee Girls will be more receptive!

My feminine side has a restraining order against me.

I heard the same rumor about Coffee Girls, yes although I'm not 100% sure of the location....

Is there anything further rumored about "Lew's II"?  They mentioned it in a nice feature article in the Star a few months back, but I haven't seen anything.  Where the owners of Lew's were going to put in a second bar in the vicinity of Tanners I think.  A Houlihan's type menu with a rooftop deck.  When it is nice out I would NEVER leave that place if this comes to fruit.....  :)

I would think it would be any day- but I haven't seen much activity over there lately, so I don't know.  I am looking forward to it.

I THINK the Lew's was maybe going to go into the old Roscoe building- right there by the bus stop.  But, don't hold me to that.

Waldo is getting three coffee shops

Coffee Girls is scheduled to open this spring. The owner did not return phone calls.

The first Coffee Girls opened at 310 Southwest Blvd. in 2003 and offers coffee drinks, juices, salads, sandwiches, smoothies and soups.

The Sweet Guy plans to open Thursday at 7439 Broadway, just south of Waldo Pizza. Blake Mathews is relocating the shop from Parkville and plans to offer a variety of items — artisan chocolates, gelato, espresso, salads, pastas and evening desserts. He also hopes to get a liquor license to pair drinks with desserts.

One More Cup hopes to open in late February in the former Waldo Coffee Cup space at 7408 Wornall Road. Owners Jeremy and Stacy Neff, Waldo residents, will be using organic coffees and teas, along with environmentally friendly products such as cups, straws and java jackets.

Very pumped for a place that serves chocolate AND pasta.  Two of my favorite foods.  And walking distance!

My wife and I have only been in Waldo for about 2 months, but we LOVE it so far.  We've been enjoying the nicer weather by talking our dog on walks after work each evening, and we see many other couples doing the same.  The character of the businesses, the restaurants, the homes, and everything else is so great.

I am definitely excited about these new coffee places.  I feel like they might help further solidify and distinguish Waldo as a hip, sophisticated place to live.

Kennedy's looks like they could open any day now. Drink prices will go up $.50 all around the bartender at their temp location told me.

I stopped by The Sweet Guy yesterday.  It was their second day open, but it seems like it will be a great addition to the area.  I had a chance to speak with the manager and he is very hopeful that they'll have good success in their new location.  They will be serving salads, soups, pastries, chocolates, gelatos and coffee drinks.  I had some coffee and some gelato and they were both very tasty.  I don't think many people new that the new location was open yet, because I was one of the only customers, but as I finished my food more and more people begun showing up.

The manager said that they are hopeful that the new influx of coffee places (Coffe Girls, One More Cup, etc.) will create a "coffee corridor" that attracts people to the area.  He said they are relying on their selection of other non-related coffee goods and foods to diversify them from the rest of the new places.

They will have free wi-fi up and running within the next week or so.

Okay, a couple of updates!  Yesterday.  My wife and I went there with some friends of ours for dessert.  Unfortunately, by the time we got there (around 7:30 pm), most of their pastries, cookies, and bakery items were gone.  The gelato looked really good, but nobody (but me) was in the mood for something cold.  I guess since they're relatively new, they're probably still trying to get their quantities right.

Anyway, we decided to walk across Wornall to One More Cup.  When we walked in, the decor was pleasant, but oddly enough it smelled like a grandma's house.  It had a strong stench of musty mothballs or something.  All 4 of us enjoyed our coffee a lot, but the smell was pretty intense, so we took our drinks to go.  Hopefully over time the coffee smell will replace the musty smell.  Weird.  Has anyone else been there or noticed this yet?  All 4 of us immediately noticed :)

I stopped by One More Cup yesterday, but didn't notice the smell.  I did think it looked kinda like a grandma's house to some degree...the odd mismatched chairs and tables and kids table, etc.  I did love the photos on the walls and with a few tweaks I think it could morph into the hipper kind of feel that the owners probably desire.  I thought it was a decent spot that given time, and some adjustments to their atmosphere, could be a nice little Waldo coffee joint.  The coffee was good, there were newspapers laying around, and the owner was extremely friendly.  I wish them well, as Waldo needs places like this.

Went to One More Cup yesterday.  Noticed a smell, but it smelled like new linoleum and paint to me.  I'm sure it will dissipate.  The coffee was GREAT.  The blueberry coffee cake was awesome as well.  I was totally surprised at the cheap prices!  The huge blueberry coffee bundt cake was $1.95.  It's a little stark and needs some warming up with more comfy seating.  Wi-Fi is free.  The chick behind the counter has the best eyeglasses I have seen since 1985.  Lastly, they use Shatto milk and have 3 recycling cans - paper/cardboard, aluminum, glass.  All organic coffee....nice little place and I wish them well.  Anxious to sit out on their hidden back deck on summer nights.

Our coffees were all great too, so that was certainly a plus.  I wasn't even aware that there was a back porch... that will be great!

I welcome the new businesses to our neighborhood but would like to point out that we have not been coffee-less since Bob passed and the Wornall shop closed.  Linda's Winged cup at Gregory & Oak has been there for us for the past few years.  Linda is a great baker and provides fresh goodies every morning for those that are looking for some nourishment.  She has also been a venue for local artists to display their work on a monthly rotating basis...some fantastic, some not so fantastic but all providing a moment to observe others creativity and engage on a different level.  The new shops are an offering for some variety in fares but let's not abandon those that have been there all along.  dr

I don't think anyone ever implied we should abandon all other established business to support newly opened ones.

There are some who will. Seems the die hard Bush supporters inherently tend to pick corporate over local in their thinking.
I hope more and more people will make a concious choice to seek out the small local establishment and spend there, keeping the moneys in the communities rather that having it go out if state to corporate HQ's.
