 Traffic on I-35 vs I-29
Does anyone know of any MODOT studies of vehicle traffic count on I-29 & I-35. I'm mainly curious about the amount of I-29 vehicle traffic from the I-29/I-635 interchange to KCI and on I-35 from the I-29/I-35 split to Liberty. Roughly the same travel distance north for both.
I used to live just south of the airport and drove I-29 daily. Traffic usually flowed very well, its six lanes. Now I live over by Liberty and drive I-35 and traffic does not flow very well there, and its only four lanes. Was curious if I-29 handles significantly more traffic than I-35 to warrant the extra lane each way.
It seems there is more population on the I-35 route than the I-29 route, but the I-29 route also has KCI as a destination for the metro area.

Re: Traffic on I-35 vs I-29
Clay County has 220K people vs Platte County has 86K.
There's one major reason when looking downtown back and forth via each road
US 169 provides an alternates straight there from I-29 with easy offramps onto it. If 169 is bad MO 9 is easy to get to from US 169.
From N. Oak and Vivion it's easier to get on I-35 and head into the city that way.
To get to MO 9 from I-35 requires going down Armour which becomes one lane. To get to US 169 requires going up I-29 and then getting off of it and onto US 69.
So all of Clay Co gets funneled into the same place by virtue of design while Platte Co has easy alternatives.
So less people with more options vs more people with less options. it's no contest.

Re: Traffic on I-35 vs I-29
I've been hoping for an expansion of I-35 to six lanes from the I-29/35 split to north Liberty. But when I had checked the MODOT site I couldn't find anything that looked like they have such an endeavor even on their radar.

Re: Traffic on I-35 vs I-29
the split north has lots of horrible spots.
the Parvin exit and I-29 southbound ramp SB needs to be redesigned completely the parvin NB ramp has no speed up length at the top
the antioch onramp and I-29 offramp need to be decoupled. antioch under I-29 needs to be redone
brighton needs to be a full diamond
the vivion intersection needs to be completely redone.
there's no I-35 SB to I-435 NB, one has to take MO 152 to get there. easy place to fix a congestion problem
there's no way from west of the ford plant area in Claycomo to I-35 NB without going by the plant or going to the Vivion onramp. seems like a hole in the layout
complex intersection at Pleasant Valley. need to decouple US 69 and I-35 ramps
MO 152 ramps are too short for the traffic load and I'd like to see the third EB lane west of Conister become a merge lane for highway traffic. it's built to be one and then was blocked with paint controls. this could be coupled with a third lane on MO 152 to 291. Mo 152 would be a good candidate for a diverging diamond too
291 is under redevelopment soon but it's intersection should be coupled with Glen Hendron in some manner where veering left = I-35 and veering right = Glen Hendrom and remove one light. better access into Liberty that way and one less light to deal with
