 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
councilman johnson has indicated there will be a major streetcar plan at some point, similar to the city's major street plan.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
That's really good news. My very subjective hope is that if and when the starter line passes it will be a start of a comprehensive rail/streetcar plan for the entire urban area(where it makes economic sense of course).

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
That would be nice, but if the streetcar get extended to UMKC, financially I think it would make more sense to just move the Orangeline MAX to Broadway, or SW Trafficway if the city could ever be persuaded to provide dedicated lanes on either side.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I'm sorry to ask a question Dave that I'm sure has been answered a dozen times in this thread, but if everything goes smoothly, what's the best estimate on when I will be able to ride this thing?

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I would say only in your dreams. If I were a betting man I would bet the city does not receive the grant. (Of course I sometimes lose those types of bets so don't try and take up the bet so that is why I said "If I were".

If I were a betting man I would take your bet. I have a very strong feeling that you are wrong.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I met a guy in Omaha once that wanted to put a friendly five on me and it wasn't what I was expecting.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
No sense speculating. We should know in a week. It will kind of crush me if we don't get it though, because I can totally see this thing going up in smoke/down in flames if KC doesn't get a little confidence boost from the Feds.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
My feeling is based on two items. 1) The amount of money available vs the total amount of the requests 2) Kansas City right now doesn't have the political strength to pull it through
I have been proven wrong in the past and will be proven wrong at times in the future but on this one ...

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I think where you're wrong is #2. I can't say with any degree of certainty that we'll get the cash, but I think that, politically speaking, KC is in a stronger position now than it has been in the past.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Huh????????????
Cleaver is lukewarm (if even that) about it. Blunt couldn't care less. McCaskill doesn't have that much influence.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I believe Mean is speaking of KC politicians and not our elected officials in DC. The mayor and company has met with the US DOT and Lahood on this issue. Not saying that having the backing of Cleaver and McCaskill wouldn't benefit KC during the process.

the winning applicants are approved by the administration from a final list determined by the USDOT.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Not disputing that but it still is a political process and open to a lobby or two or three or more.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
From what I heard last night, only 8 Old Town Properties residents voted in the election.
