 Re: port fonda
finally tried port fonda last night. delicious as expected. i had an assortment of tacos - lengua, carnitas, and choriqueso, and all were awesome. i also tried a bite of a friend's chilaquiles, which were great. very cool trailer and well-executed. i also dug the old school r&b/hip-hop music that was playing. we will definitely be back!

Love that place. Those chilaquilas were the bomb.

 Re: port fonda
Just grabbed lunch there. They are under the bridge at 23rd & Washington. Chilaquiles were delicious. Also had a tastey Carnita taco. Hope they frequent that spot more in the future!

Just noticed on FB that they had a cancellation for El Comedor for 8:30 Saturday, if anyone is interested.

 Re: port fonda
Gotta love those KC Star comments. The first one is about how cheap pork shoulder is per pound vs. how expensive it is if you dine in El Comedor. Doh! On a side note, I don't get how so many negative criticisms of restaurants aren't even close to being based on the food. Sure, service is important, but someone would honestly have to spit in my food at my table to deserve a 1 out of 5 with no regard for how it tasted before it was spat upon (unless spit in your food at the table is a new gastronomic craze). If I read one more Yelp review where someone dedicates 8 paragraphs of a 1 out of 5 stars review to complaining about the service and how they had to wait for 10 extra minutes and the server looked at them wrong, then adds a one sentence blurb to the end describing the food as delicious... I don't see how you all in the service industry do it.

 Re: port fonda
KC Star desperately needs to force people to connect to Facebook to comment. Last night, Port Fonda teamed up with Cellar Rate. PF opened up across the street and had a free wine tasting (with full glasses for sale). Event was pretty full. It looked like it was a win win for both. Port Fonda getting good business and I heard several Cellar Rat regulars comment on how busy it was for a Thursday (not understanding why...)

 Re: port fonda
They could possibly be opening up an actually restaurant, facebook post for them says "Anyone know anyone that owns a building(s) in kansas city and wants to do something cool with one of them"?

wouldn't jump the gun to fast. port fonda has made a lot of friends quickly and may just be looking for someone else.

 Re: port fonda
They were also mentioned in the article about the recent pop-up restaurant, so perhaps they are interested in seeing what their options are for one of those.

 Re: port fonda
Went to Port Fonda v2.0 on Friday night.
Firstly, the space is very cool. A comfortable, casual place that feels like it has been there for years. The room is bigger than I was expecting with a very good sized bar. It was loud and rockin', both from the crowd and the music. It was a bit tough to hear our very friendly server at times. It was a really great atmosphere to hang out and enjoy a Friday night.
As they were just doing a soft opening, the full menu wasn't available. There were only 4 appetizers available. We got the guacamole ($8)and the queso fundido ($9) along with some margaritas ($9). Both of the appetizers were served with pork rinds rather than chips. The pork rinds were great and had a spicy kick, but I really would have liked to have the option of getting chips instead. The margarita was pretty good. It was served in a Boulevard tulip glass and was a bit tiny. There were several other really good looking cocktails on the menu as well.
3 drinks and 2 apps (which were half price) came to almost $40 with tax and would have been pushing $50 if the food were full price, and that's before the tip. Seems a bit on the pricey side although everything was top notch.
There is a small courtyard to the south of the building that they are planning to turn into an outdoor space which would be a great addition.

 Re: port fonda
we went to PF on friday too. we had chips with our guacamole, and fresh tortillas with our queso fundido. so they either screwed up and didn't give you chips/tortillas, or maybe they were out of them. i will report that the chips were freaking delicious, so good you could eat them on their own with no problem.

 Re: port fonda
I would say that if you can't eat a chip on its own with no problem, you've got a remarkably shitty chip.

 Re: port fonda
I'm a Los Corrals chip kind of guy, although I respect that not everyone enjoys that particular style. Can't wait to try PF's. Any word on whether they'll be open for lunch?

 Re: port fonda
I know a few people who will be working the lunch shift (if I remember correctly). Not sure when they begin or how many days a week it will run, though. I'm sure they will announce via Facebook as soon as they are ready.
