Dave, you didn't leave much to be said. I can't believe she isn't voting!

She lives in Western Auto and doesn't support the Streetcar? I don't understand how that's possible...why would you live down here... speechless.

anyone see this during the all-star game coverage last night? i know it aired at least twice in the 6pm local slot. also aired at kauffman, i'm told.

ourstreetcar.com is live now, if anyone wants to give. perks start at $10, give as little as $1. downtowners should give now, since assessments won't start until 2013.

FWIW, last night Mary K.'s editorial said she "Lives in the Crossroads District". I thought this implausible given her editorial's content so I looked at the JaCo land records and found her name attached to a loft in Western Auto (stalkerish I know, but I HAD TO UNDERSTAND). Anyway, I still found it peculiar but oh well I thought. I noticed just now that the byline has been updated to reflect the truth: Mary K. Florence, who owns a loft in the Crossroads District, lives in Weatherby Lake.

For fuck's sake.

nice homework, my friend. clearly her stance is that of a suburban "weekender" and not a true downtowner. for those playing at home, why don't we estimate her annual assessment?

the city is pursuing several avenues to close the funding gap:

- 2015-2016 Surface Transportation Program funds (Ordinance 120493)
- 2013-2014 Congestion Mitigation Air Quality funds (Ordinance 120496)
- Unspent proceeds from 3 downtown TIFs (Ordinance 120603)
- 2013 PIAC funds

again, if you have any doubt this project is still happening you can erase it now.

If anyone happened to catch KCTV 5's 6pm news broadcast today you saw my better half being interviewed about the KCLoftSpace letter (old news I know). The clip they used from the interview was pretty good - positive about the Streetcar of course.

Video & Story:
http://www.kctv5.com/story/19022648/downtown-loft-owner-warns-streetcars-would-raise-rent-rates?autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=7501759

I notice the KCTV.com story above links to an old (March) article on the KCStar. Kind of lazy really.

If she had known they would be out there interviewing in front of our place (Old Townley), she would have worn her Streetcar t-shirt we bought from Dave last Friday at the crossroads :)

Post Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
that piece is so riddled with inaccuracies and omissions, i don't even know where to begin:

1. voters aren't "going to the polls in a few weeks", they've been voting my mail since june 19. the print article and video don't even use the same description.
2. what Old Townley did was ILLEGAL, since they rely on tax credits for some of their buildings. they were reported to the MHDC by multiple tenants (see quoted response to me, below). in fact, they can't even raise rents beyond a certain percentage every year because of these credits.
3. "shelly evans" didn't request a ballot, but happy she's a supporter. only **8** residents of all 15 Old Townley buildings participated. rental participation overall is very low.
4. the star article is old. the letters (dated may 24) were laid at residents doors (not mailed). (here's the full letter)
5. "the study" is complete. the additional money the council approved is for engineering and the TDD formation process.

From MHDC:

Quote:
Please be informed that suggestions to tenants on how to vote is prohibited and only non-partisan activity is allowed for federally funded tax credit properties. Management at Old Town Lofts has been informed of this information and all partisan activity should cease immediately. Please notify our office immediately should the problem persist.

in fact, the star article so old is doesn't even take into consideration three major updates that affect opposition from property owners:

- the commercial property assessment was reduced to $0.48 per $100 of the county's assessed value
- the city is handing over on-street parking revenue to a non-profit operator to further offset those assessments
- a crowdfunding effort has started, with all proceeds (whether they meet their target or not) going directly to assessment reduction

Shelly moved into Townley AFTER the deadline. Couldn't request a ballot... But will be voting next time. She told Channel 5 that, but they clipped the interview to "imply" she was a voter.

They also implied that I (Shelly Evans) 1. Received the letter - which I told them NUMEROUS times I did not, and had only heard about the letter from the previous media reports (a long time ago). And 2. Due to their nice editing made it sound as if I was happy for rents to go up. She also told me that she had interviewed someone that was against the streetcar and was looking for a balancing opinion. Did you see anyone else in the piece?

Trust me, we saw all of the same problems you did. That letter went out before they made changes in the funding structure due to the lawsuits filed. This was old news trying to become a new story following the shift in funds that were approved this week, and the press missing the All Star Game.
