Noticed last nite that they're tearing down the boarded-up house just to the East of China Feast ( hey, I rhymed ) . Dunno if they're gonna do the same w/the house just to the east of that.

I find that many landowner way over value what they have.  There really isn't any neighborhoods in KC (maybe plaza) that warrant a high value without already having had significant improvements made to it (building/housing renovation).  They see other cities that have a dense urban vibrancy where that is possible and assume it should apply to them since they're in or close to the core. Then they see some development going on around them and they automatically inflate their asking price even though all they have is a barren strip of land or random dilapidated house...but in reality there just isn't a neighborhood where I feel that's  justified here.

So, it seems to me like most land/home/building owners are willing to sell, but completely unrealistic about what they have...

They are fools then, because most estimates I've seen indicate that the real estate market isn't going to rebound for a decade.

The building to the west has been renovated for a year or two. But the building on the east side remains mostly boarded up. That whole stretch of Lindwood is such a mess of suburban type buildings that completely don't fit into an urban landscape...but I honestly don't see it changing in my lifetime.

I noticed today when I stopped at Home Depot that the vacant building on the right (of the photo) is having new windows put in, and I could see inside and the walls were torn down to the studs. It appears this building is getting a gut-renovation. YAY! ! !

The old houses across from the entrance to Costco and Home Depot have also all been torn down except for the one furthest of the right. I don't know why they didn't go ahead and take that one out too, unless there are problems getting title to the parcel.

There seem to be people living in that last house. At least, there were people there this past weekend. No idea if they're squatting or not.

There's an old lady that lives there who, I would guess, has ben there for decades (there may be others living there as well). I don't know if there has been any effort to buy and demo the house, but I have a feeling it would be tough to get her out. I've crossed paths with her buying booze at the 7-11 at 9am.

Why were you buying booze at 9am? :D

Hmmm, I see how that was ambiguous. She was buying booze at 9am. I see her sitting on the porch all day - I imagine she's getting drunk and yelling at squirrels in cantankerous old lady fashion.

Don't be cowed, there is nothing wrong with buying booze in the morning. No lines, supply freshly stocked. Consuming booze at 9 am might be an issue though, unless it's football season, st. pats or a wednesday.

I friend of mine says, "You can't drink all day if you don't start early in the morning."

I've been keeping an eye on this building and haven't been able to see many signs of progress from the street when passing by. However, there is a construction dumpster behind the building as well as a johnny on the spot, so it does appear that work is going on.

I checked kiva net and found that the building is owned by Glowbalize Real Estate Management. That is not a typo, they really do spell their name that way. I could not find out much about this company.

In other news for the glorious boulevard of Linwood, the former KFC has been torn down. Kiva net reveals that it will be replaced by an Advanced Auto Parts. Huzzah  I guess it's better than a vacant KFC.

By the way, this is what used to be at Linwood & Troost:
