 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
technically, it could go forever. the only limitation would be density and built environment along any extended portion of the line (and cost, of course). after 10 miles from the city center, you start getting into some pretty inhospitable places to be on foot (at least on the arterials where there are people AND jobs). also, the project is defined primarily as a circulator, not as much for commuters like many light rail (or even BRT) lines. i don't have an updated map of the whole route, but i snapped these termini pics at the open house: http://transitkc.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/map_RM.jpghttp://transitkc.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/map_CC.jpg

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I'm sure the promoters have thought of this, but the obvious place to find residents of the district is at the downtown Cosentino's. You won't be guaranteed to get only supporters, but if you press a ballot into the hands of anyone leaving the store on foot with groceries in hand, or anyone younger than a certain age, I think you'd be likely to end up with a lot more "yes" votes than "no" votes. ... Another likely place to find supportive residents is among weekend bus-riders in the district.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
The best term for the streetcar that I heard from yesterday's presenation and I think Dave said this as well was calling the streetcar a "pedestrian accelerator". Such a good description.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
You'd have to think 63rd or 75th would be the absolute farthest south anybody would want to run a line. 51st seems a likelier terminus, but then I imagine Brooksiders and Waldonians might be willing to pay for an extension to their neighborhoods even though it would be impractical to ride a the thing all the way downtown. With infrequent stops, a streetcar between the Plaza, the Brookside shops, and Waldo Pizza would probably see some use.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
agreed. still, some people say "what good is it if it doesn't go to the airport?" i am now actively telling people to NEVER expect rail service to KCI's current location. it's just simply too far and there's not much between there and downtown.

Those were the days. There was even a sidewalk on the west side of Main St by the Liberty Memorial.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I can attest to this. Dave has done a fantastic job in getting the word out and informing people of the benefits of having a streetcar.

Nice article Dave and to the point. I don't have a facebook account or I would have posted a comment to rebutt the the initial comment posted by what I can only believe is a tea bagger.

 Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Around 10% of the eligible voters and in line with municipal elections, I would be surprised if the TDD didn’t pass. Next step, find out if KC has been awarded the $25 million tiger grant. This is starting to look good. Dave awesome job on the final push.
