At the beginning of every summer, they will need to take off the cover and use an air hose to blast the dirt out of it, you know, help keep the electricity bills reasonable.
And for what should be such a professional rendering, why do the cars on the street look like clip art from my 2nd grade class?

Re: OFFICIAL: NABC Hall of Fame building design
My first thoughts are this building isn't going to be 8 stories tall...look how small those people are.

I think it is absolutely hideous. It looks like a giant air conditioning unit for the Sprint Arena. Where is the imagination here???

So the opening for all of this is supposed to be fall of 2007. I wonder how long after that we can begin demolition proceedings.

Re: OFFICIAL: NABC Hall of Fame building design
the scale of the building doesn't look right to me either. Looking at the pedestrians, it does look at least 8 stories, but next to the Sprint center, it looks much shorter. I wonder, do they have a more "in scale" rendering, or one that shows the HOF from the pedestrian perspective?

I actually like the front of it but that north wall is rough to swallow.

Yeah, especially if there are cottonwood trees nearby. They kind of have a "Tom Goes to the Mayor" look to them.

Re: OFFICIAL: NABC Hall of Fame building design
Well, I'll give it to them that it must be difficult to come up with architecture to represent a game played indoors with absolutely no connection to the outside. Since it is a game played in, or at least popular in, recent decades, any design would preferably be modern and abstract. That's basically what we got. Any traditional architectural style would seem arbituary and forced. A little more dynamism would help in this case, though.

Re: OFFICIAL: NABC Hall of Fame building design
I'm sure that isn't the final design. . . Â its just schematic. Â Shame on you KCPowercat for misleading the kids like that! Â :)
Even seeing the actual materials will make a difference. . . for example, what is that on the north wall? Â Concrete? Â Metal panels? Â What color/finish of metal panel? Â and the west face? Â I have no clue what that is.
Obviously they aren't going for something that looks like the buildings in the P&L district, so some of you will dismiss it immediately. . . but I would be very shocked if the final product looks exactly like this rendering.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending that thing as it appears right now, because it is grossly underdeveloped. Â But let's not decide we hate it before we even see if the design goes anywhere.
The cars and people are out of scale in all the renderings. Â
I would guess those panels on the north face of the HOF are 4' x 8' max, maybe smaller. Â So the building is about 50'-0"? Â Equivalent of 3-4 stories.

Re: OFFICIAL: NABC Hall of Fame building design
At some point that north facade for the NACB may be embelished by supergraphics promoting the building and upcoming events. Here is just an idea to consider.

Re: OFFICIAL: NABC Hall of Fame building design
I don't care if you cover it with strobe lights. It is still a dead block. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to take a trip down that street. It will be inactive and dark with little sense of context. Throw a window in there or something, please.

Re: OFFICIAL: NABC Hall of Fame building design
I'm really surprised this is such an issue.
The building envelope contains predominately a museum and exhibit space. Light control and the exhibit space requirements dictate the facade treatment. It's really that simple.
Personally, I like the way the object anchors the edge and provides a stark counterpoint to the light and ephemeral form of the arena. I think it also provides some tension and drama as the view to the arena is shielded and then revealed to the passerby at street level.
Where's the furor over Bartle Hall or the industrial severity of the Nelson Expansion?

Re: OFFICIAL: NABC Hall of Fame building design
I think people many times have commented on Bartle's long dead block. Also the Nelson has got plenty of play on here.
I agree, throw in a window to the inside....give people a reason to be drawn into the HOF.

Re: OFFICIAL: NABC Hall of Fame building design
I hate it. Can't believe they couldn't come up with anything better than that. Even harder to believe a group of architects aren't able to look at it and see how lame it is. These guys are supposed to be some of the best in the business? Maybe they should have tried to make the theme from the arena carry over to the HOF with the glass or something. Anything would be better than that.
