I just like to hear Mizzou fans like Michael running around screaming for some sort of respect because they played in the 1972 Fiesta Bowl or pulled a 8:30am slot at The Cotton Bowl. If KCPowercat wasn't so singularly obsessed with KU, he would call them out for needing validation.
It's not so much that Mizzou fans like Michael are "screaming for respect because they played in the 1972 Fiesta Bowl".  They're asking that Kansas fans like MD and the others stop stomping their feet and demanding that others see KU's football tradition as anything more than unremarkable simply because Lew Perkins bought them a berth in a forgettable and poorly attended Orange Bowl game.

They really need to get over their lust for nonstop acclaim and realize the outside world sees things more objectively than the denizens of KU sports boards.

I agree.  The history of KU football is mediocre at best.  We've had some good seasons sprinkled throughout, but nothing that anyone outside Kansas would consider significant.  But the perception of MU football is the same outside Missouri.  Nobody looks at MU or KU as anything but middle of the pack Big 12 teams.  We need years and years of sustained success to change that perception.

The irony of one banned poster bitching about another banned poster.  At least MD doesn't keep coming back with puppets like MoMan.

To the outside world...KU and MU are equals.  When you look at the programs side by side...MU has a better program/better history. But still doesn't get any respect outside the states of Missouri/Kansas/Illinois/etc. Hell, ask an SEC fan about MU's "tradition" and they'll laugh in your face. Same goes for OU/Texas/USC/Ohio State.

K-State football has more credibility to the outside world than Mizzou.

Would that be WSPanic bitching about Michael?

KCP - I see your coordinators are all starting to look for greener pastures.  Cause for worry?

Like Roy Williams? How many guys passed us over before we got that loser? Eddie Fogler, Mike Kryzewski, Gary Williams, Gene Keady, Charlie Spoonhour, Bobby Cremins....

Roy Williams wasn't in KU's top five choices when they initially hired him. Coach K, Cremins, Fogler and Gary Williams all turned KU down.

I've heard the same goes for KSU hiring Bill Snyder.

They both turned out okay.

He's saying that Roy Williams wasn't the first choice of Bob Frederick but he turned out okay. Just hope that no-one calls Turner Gill "scary smart."

Hell, the Mangino backers are convinced that Lew and Gill conspired in planning this whole course of events months ago.

my comment max quoted  gave no judgment on the hire...just found the jsersey #1 to be funny in many ways...since he obviously wasn't '#1'...but since it was brought up, I think its pretty safe to say turner won't be mentioned in the same breath as roy williams or bill snyder many more times....

It sounds like Gill was Lew's #1 guy, even if he wasn't most fans' #1 guy.  He was the first one he interviewed, and the rumors about Harbaugh were just rumors.  Lew made it pretty clear that he loved Gill from the first time he met him, and it sounds like he wanted him all along.

No. There are a number of published reports they offered Harbaugh the job. I'm okay with Gill, but he was very clearly their #2 pick.
